Back Matter Fall 1995

Draft Standards for K-12 Foreign Language Learning Reviewed by ADFL Executive Committee

The ADFL Executive Committee twice reviewed drafts of Standards for Foreign Language Learning: Preparing for the Twenty-First Century in the 1994–95 academic year. Rather than describe the state of language teaching today, the standards strive to establish national goals for the future of K-12 foreign language education. The draft standards have been circulated throughout the foreign language teaching community and the committee preparing the standards has incorporated many of the comments received from the field into the now almost completed document. Along with the MLA Advisory Committee on Foreign Languages and Literatures and members of the MLA Executive Council, the ADFL Executive Committee compiled comments on the draft standards and forwarded them to the MLA executive director, Phyllis Franklin, who wrote to the standards' authors in the name of the MLA.
